Pioneer League Players of the Week (July 9-15)
Position Player of the Week
Josh Dudden, Albert Lea
UTL — Fr. — Central Arizona CC
For the second time this summer, Albert Lea’s, Josh Dudden, has been named Position Player of the Week! Another big week at the plate for Central Arizona’s middle infielder, turning into a summer to remember for the freshman. Chosen to be on the 2-year team of the PCBL all-star game, Dudden continues to rake at the plate and produce at a high level for the Lakers!
This week, Dudden drove in three runs thanks to three doubles and a home run! He went 9 for 21 at the plate, a mark of .429! The Laker offense stalled slightly this week, and Dudden acted as a spark plug helping to generate runs for the Lakers. He scored five runs himself, compared to the three he drove in. Once on base Dudden swiped five bags! Overall, Dudden’s spark this week helped lead the Lakers to a 4-1 record on the week, creating a bigger margin atop the PCBL standings, an 8.0 game lead on second place Storm Lake Whitecaps.
“Josh had a great week and proved again why he should be up for consideration for player of the year. He has a great approach at the plate and was really good on the bases. He got good jumps and was a spark plug for us,” says Lakers head coach Michael Keeran. “He has a bright future and I can’t wait to see what he does in the All-Star game and in the playoffs!”
The summer stats for Dudden are off the charts! He leads the Lakers in hits (38), batting average (.418), RBIs (38), and triples(5)! Only behind fellow Central Arizona teammate, Liam Spence (18-18), in stolen bases Dudden is sitting at a 87% success rate at stealing bases (13-15).
The Lakers have a full week of baseball coming up. Wednesday, July 18th, a double-header at Storm Lake (Two 7-inning games, first pitch 5:05 pm), Thursday, July 19th, Hayek Field against Bancroft (7-inning game, first pitch 6:35 pm), Friday, July 20th, Hayek Field against Peak of Ames (7:05 pm), Saturday, July 21st, at Carroll (7:05 pm), ALL-STAR GAME SUNDAY JULY 22ND [Merchants Park, Carroll, Iowa. First Pitch 4:05 pm].
Pitcher Player of the Week
Greg Oden, Bancroft
RHP — Fr. — Hinds CC
Bancroft has their second Player of the Week this summer, first Pitcher of the Week. Hinds CC pitcher, Greg Oden, was voted pitcher of the week for the Bandits. He helped Bancroft go 2-0 on the week while picking up two saves, as the Bandits started playing much better ball of late.
Other notable stats from Oden’s week on the mound includes giving up no hits in his 4.0 innings pitched, as well as giving up no runs for the Bandits. He struck out six opposing hitters. He picked up saves in both of the games pitched this week — against Albert Lea and Peak of Ames.
“Greg is new to us but he has handled pressure situations well so far. He is a bulldog on the mound, he has no fear and pounds the zone,” mentioned Bandits head coach Dave Walsh. Walsh also attributes his team’s success to the shutdown performance of Oden this week, “He has been one of the many reasons why the Bancroft Bandits have been playing better baseball.”
Look for Oden to continue pitching well for Bancroft this upcoming week as the PCBL goes into its second to last week of regular season play. The Bandits look for him to stay hot and help lead the team into postseason play!
